Badrinath Harchand, or "Bud" is a 10-12 year-old boy from India who likes video games and is the pilot of the Type-J9 Griffon. As a pilot, he is as talented as Noa Izumi and considers her to be his rival. He appears in the manga, novels, TV series and the second OVA series.
Personality[]
Bud being a younger character is often very juvenile in nature, caring about nothing more than playing video games, or piloting the Griffon. Seeing most of his altercations with the police as a game, he is often eager to pilot the Griffon and committing to the battle, sometimes disobeying the orders of Utsumi and Kurosaki. He often does throw tantrums when he is told he can't pilot the Griffon, or isn't allowed too.
Despite his brash nature, he does yearn for companionship or some kind of family. Because of this, he has a strong filial bond with Utsumi, who acted as a "father figure" to him. This as well as his maternal-like affinity for his doctor Oyamada and the fact he refers to Noa as "big sis" support this idea.
Biography[]
With a birthdate sometime in the late 1980s, Bud's past is largely unknown, though it is made clear that he was acquired by Utsumi through the means of human trafficking. Buds personality was a personally chosen by Utsumi, having him be raised spoiled and bratty while loving video games. He has a mutual dislike for Kurosaki, as he sees Bud's tantrum being a hindrance. He would spend most of his time either playing video games or in pilot simulations in preparation to fight the AV-98 Ingrams, developing a more sadistic piloting style. This would go on until he was finally apprehended by the police, in The New Files he would end up being sent back to India, while in the manga he was adopted.
