F-15J Kai Eagle Plus

The F-15J Kai Eagle Plus (F-15J改 イーグルプラス) commonly referred as F-15J Kai, is a variant of the real-world F-15J Eagle, manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. It makes its only appearance in Patlabor 2: The Movie. Known Units are Wizard 03 and Priest 21.

Technology and Combat Characteristics[]

The F-15J Kai is an design upgrade to extend F-15 Eagle's lifespan. Its external appearance near identical to F-15S/MTD ACTIVE Eagle, but it was equipped with front variable canards, to increase its maneuverability. Then its tail stabilizer are derived from F-18 Hornet, and angled horizontally, to add additional stealth capabilities against state pf the art aircraft of the time. Third is the semi-submerged hardpoints, which improved its aerodynamics, and stealth capabilities. Lastly, the F15J Kai is equipped with 2-dimensional thrust vector engine based on X-31 experimental jet fighter, which gave it extra maneuverability and faster maneuvering time much better.[1] Internally the F-15 is equipped with HOTAS system, which a system to control the entire aircraft via a multi-function switch on the control stick and power levers during High G-maneuver. These upgrades turn the F-15J into a high performance aircraft, with the capabilities surpassing the previous F-15 variants.[1]

History[]

In A.D 2002, two F-15J Kai designated Wizard 03 from 204th Hyakuri and Priest 21 from 303rd Komatsu were deployed to intercept the target designated "Wyvern". During the interception, these units were arrived at area HK21 to find the rogue three F-16J from JASDF's Northern Air Defense Force. However their effort was in vain as the so called F-16Js Wyvern is merely a false target caused by JASDF's BADGE system.[2]

Notes & Trivia[]

  • The wing design of F-15J Kai resembles the VF-11B Thunderbolt from Macross franchise rather than F-22 Raptor.
    • This was caused by the designer Shōji Kawamori who also works as the main aircraft designer on the said franchise.
