"I Love Noa-Senpai" is the 18th episode of Mobile Police Patlabor: On Television.

Synopsis[]

The episode begins with the team, Ohta especially, for the arrival Kana Matsumoto, who is the most popular singer in all of Japan. Noa asks why such a big star is joining their team, to which Shige tells her that HQ is having a labor safety parade that will be led by Kana Matsumoto. She'll be joining SV-2 temporarily to learn how to pilot an Ingram for the big day, and could possibly improve the reputation of Division 2. Soon would arrive Goto in a patrol car along with the honorary officer Kana Matsumoto, to which the entire mechanics team proclaim their love for her. Asuma welcomes her to the team before Ohta pulls him out of the way to introduce himself. Goto appoints Noa as Kana's teacher before leaving and everyone scrambles to prepare the first test, that being loading the Ingram on to the carrier. Asuma would tell her what each of the controls do in the Ingram and tells her to relax, Noa running to him telling him it could be dangerous and something could happen to Alphonse but he tells her its just a simple initiation. Shige tells the two he turned on the auto pilot for the carrier to which then Noa asks if that's cheating, however Asuma tells her that a beginner needs to gain confidence and she can't learn in a week if she's nervous. Despite this, Kana fumbles with the controls in the Ingram trying to turn it on, turning off the autopilot in the process. She walks toward the carrier and turns around, but before she could place one of the feet on the carrier she loses balance causing the entire labor to collapse. Asuma tries to ease her worries as Kana starts to cry, her crying angering Noa after she fell in Unit 1, and tells her "Your wounds will heal on their own time, but it will take hard work to fix these scratches on Alphonse!" Surprisingly, despite her tone, this seems to stop Kana from crying.

Later in the bath Noa is perturbed that everyone seems to be pampering Kana, even annoyed that Kanuka takes notice to her potential as a pilot. She asks why Kana has to use Unit 1 and Kanuka states Unit 3 is being used for parts while Ohta customized Unit 2 too much for a beginner to handle. Kana then appears and apologizes for what happened that day, saying how she's not good with machines but wants to get better. Noa begrudgingly accepts and Kana is ecstatic, proclaiming her love for Noa. The next day Ohta attentively teaches Kana how to fire the revolver cannon, Kana stating "This one's for Izumi, with love!" once she readies to fire. Taken aback by the statement Asuma questions Noa about it, to which Noa suggests she developed an innocent crush akin to how girls get crushes in an all girl's school. Upon firing the shot, Kana somehow manages to miss the target but skip the bullet across the water. Meanwhile Shinobu inquires Goto about the possibility of mobilization whilst they're training Kana, though Goto tells her not to worry as HQ is gungho on the parade. There will likely be a large media presence surrounding it, meaning that they won't be called out for a while as Kana's training is top priority. Somewhere on the reclaimed land a strange man named Ryu is watching Kana, getting a phone call within his car asking if the "target" is in sight. Apparently this man and his boss just smuggled in missiles and are now going after Kana. They're going after something "big" and Kana is just he first step. That night Noa is taking Kana for a jog, Kana complaining about working so hard, though Noa tells her that being a labor pilot requires endurance and she won't lend her Alphonse any other way. As they get farther a car starts to slowly follow the two, and Kana's distance between Noa starts increasing. Noa turns around to see Kana had disappeared, and the car following them appeared before the girl. At the station there's a phone call to which Asuma answers, the man on the other end stating they kidnapped Kana and want an Ingram in exchange for her return. Kana appears behind Asuma having return, which leads Asuma to believe someone is playing a sick prank on him. The man on the other end asks if Kana is really there, Asuma confirming that she really is there. Asuma asks Kana if she was Noa and she says she lost sight of her. As it turns out, Ryu kidnapped the wrong girl, claiming he couldn't tell them apart from behind. The rest of Division 2 gather in the guardroom with the phone, planning to negotiate Noa's return without specifically giving them an Ingram. At midnight they will meet at a burger shop in a landfill, planning to pull of Noa's rescue without the knowledge of HQ nor their Captain.

Ryu brings Noa to their hideout, and she says they'd never give him the Ingram, but Cho tells her that he's already closed a deal with them. He plans on stripping the Ingram for parts and selling them to a foreign army. At the burger shop Asuma arrives in the labor carrier, communicating with Ryu via note cards he moves on the counter. He says Noa will go free once they leave Japan, and to hand over the movement disk. Asuma gives him the disk but he delivers a sucker punch and runs off in the carrier, Kanuka arriving in her car to give chase to the criminal. Asuma tells Ohta where they're headed and plan to rendezvous with them there. Ryu drives the carrier into one of the warehouses and gets out, though he is quickly attacked by Asuma after the two arrive after him. Kanuka threatens to kill Ryu if they hurt Noa, though Cho arrives holding a gun to Noa's head telling them to let go of Ryu. Ohta then drops from the sunroof of the warehouse in Unit 2, announcing he will avenge Noa's death despite her not being dead yet. Before he can strike at Cho (who was also restraining Noa, meaning he likely would've hit her as collateral), a Grau Bear ambushes Unit 2 and restrains it. Cho orders Ryu to get on the Ingram and eliminate Unit 2, the carrier lifting up with Unit 1 stepping off, equipping it's revolver cannon, and firing at Unit 2. Though as it turns out, Unit 1 aimed for the arms of the Grau Bear, shooting them clean off while avoiding Unit 2. Kana had been piloting Unit 1, the shock of the turn of events allowed Noa to bite Cho and escape his grasp. It's also revealed that Hiromi was also on the labor carrier, who tied up Ryu, holding him over his head. Cho tries to run off though Kana pursues him in Unit 1, and while she trips over the tarp, she catches the man between the two fingers of the Ingram's manipulators. The Grau Bear tries to sneak off but Ohta throws the baton at it's feet, then shooting his revolver cannon at the pilot destroying the labor for good. Asuma remarks the Captain is definitely going to find out now, and Noa apologizes not knowing what they went through to save her. Asuma tells her he's just glad she's safe and pats her head. At the station everyone tries sneaking up the catwalk, each person shushing the one behind them. Kana whispers to Noa that she's deciding to set her free, saying "It's obvious that Asuma is nuts about you." Noa and Asuma are both flustered after hearing this, denying anything of the sort between them. Ohta tells them to shut up and Kanuka tells everyone to hurry before the Captain sees them. Just as she says this Goto whispers what they're all up to, surprising Kanuka making her yelp causing everyone to shush her in response. The episode ends with Goto continuing to whisper, saying how he has hot coffee ready along with fries.
