Kiichi Goto (後藤 喜一 Gotō Kiichi) is the captain of Section 2 Division 2 in Mobile Police Patlabor. Born in the Taito Ward in Tokyo. He is a heavy smoker who always keeps beer in the fridge in the barracks. At first glance, he appears to be a lackadaisical middle manager, but he is a shrewd operator who manages the 2nd squad, which is made up of people with quirks and idiosyncrasies, and always gets his way in political negotiations with the police upper echelon.

Personality[]

Kiichi Goto is laid back at times, even apathetic, but is in fact an extremely capable and politically savvy police officer; not only is his strategic awareness quite acute, Goto is as subtle and manipulative as any given situation requires. Hence he got the nickname "Razor Goto" in the police. True to form, however, Goto is on top of most events long before most others are even aware of what's going on. It can also be noted within him that a small sadistic streak exists, in that he enjoys the suffering of his team members on letting them do all the detective work where he already knew what they are sent out to discover; much to the chagrin of his subordinates who loathe this quality. Although his methods are seen as "villainous," he is trusted by his colleagues, such as Shinobu Nagumo, who frowns upon his methods, and Yuma and Matsui, who often feel dissatisfied and taken advantage of. This is because his principles are based on the belief in "justice." On the other hand, he is disliked by the police upper echelon because of his principles.

Biography[]

Kiichi Goto was born in the Taito Ward in Tokyo, age unknown, though at least middle aged as of 1998. He was a political science graduate who then would go on to work as a normal police officer, to public security, and then government officer. His motto is laissez-faire, "neither giving orders nor enforcing them," but he has no qualms about manipulating people's behavior through skillful planning and persuasive talk. It was rumored that because of this, the top officials in the police force assigned him to The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Special Vehicles Division 2, Section 2 for fear he might ruffle too many feathers. There he would go on to command the new labor unit that makes a psychological impact on the community, and to deter criminals making the public feel safe. Goto would also develop somewhat of a romantic interest in Shinobu, however the feeling is seemingly unrequited. His hobbies also include gambling on horse races, fishing, and karaoke.

Trivia[]

  • Goto has athlete's foot and can often be seen wearing traditional Japanese wooden sandals around the office.
