Patlabor Wiki

The SRX-70 was a prototype patlabor produced by a joint venture between Toyohata Auto and Hishii Heavy Industry, acting as a front for Schaft Enterprises. Officially, it was intended to compete with the AV-98 Ingram, seeing limited use by Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department labor units, but it was never successful on the market.

Design & Development[]

The SRX-70 was designed to compete with Shinohara Heavy Industries' AV-98, and represented Toyohata and Hishii's contribution to the second generation of patlabors. The SRX-70 could roughly match the Ingram's physical performance, but stood out on account of its high firepower. The type was not equipped with any melee weapons, relying on hand-to-hand combat when using a gun would be impractical.

Reception[]

The SRX-70 was deployed to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Special Vehicles Section 2, Division 1 in November 1998. It replaced the MPL-97S Python labors in use by the division at the time, and was utilized on multiple operations involving rogue labors. The SRX-70 received high praise from its pilots and was appreciated by the general public, but suspicions toward it were high from the onset of its deployment. Only Toyohata mechanics were authorized to work on the labor, alienating police mechanics and drawing the attention of some police officers.

Upon investigating the SRX-70, members of the Special Vehicles Section 2 discovered that the type was merely a device that Schaft Enterprises was using to obtain data on police pilots and operations, presumably to further the development of their military labors.

Further Development[]

Following these findings, the SRX-70 was quietly withdrawn from service and the Pythons it had replaced were reinstated. The type would remain unseen until about five months later, when the production model SR-70 Saturn was revealed.

Trivia[]

  • The SRX-70's 42mm Revolver Cannon is based on the Auto Mag Pistol created by the Auto Mag Corporation. Although it is classified as a Revolver Cannon in the series, the real life counterpart is a semi-automatic pistol.
