Schaft Enterprises is a major multinational corporation in the Patlabor timelines. It contains various branches and divisions, and produces a very wide range of products. In the Patlabor Television Timeline, Schaft Enterprises and its various divisions, especially Planning Section 7, act as the overarching antagonists. The company takes a backseat role in the Original Animated Timeline, where it is merely a developer of labors. The exact history, structure, and important figures of Schaft are unknown, but it is established that the company competes with, and reaches farther than the ubiquitous Shinohara Heavy Industries.

Overview[]

Schaft Enterprises was established in 1986, with a capital of 124.6 billion yen. The Head Office is located in Minato-ku, Tokyo, having 18,222 working employees, their annual sales (consolidated) are 1,896.6 billion yen (of the fiscal year 2002) Main offices include: Tsuchiura Research Institute, Atsugi Plant, Fujisawa Plant. Approaching the labor industry from electronics rather than heavy industry, Schaft has a tendency to view labors as an extension of electronic equipment from the software side reflects, for better or worse, an era in which real war scenes look like video games.

Currently, the largest force among overseas labor manufacturers can be said to be the multinational company Schaft Enterprises. The Schaft Group is a young company founded in the 1970s. However, it grew rapidly thanks to the global reorganization of the industrial world, which has been progressing since the 1960s due to the shift from heavy industry to electronic equipment and other mainstream industries.

Today, Schaft has become an almost independent business entity in Europe, America, and Asia, due to the fact that the organization has grown so internationally and the factions of top management that are tied to local industries. Moreover, there is a strong tendency to compete within the same shaft group. Schaft has advanced into a wide range of industrial fields, to the extent that it is said to be "from toothpicks to space shuttles,'' but its main field is electronics technology.

For this reason, the design orientation of the labor differs greatly depending on the shaft in each region. This is the linear and solid design of the TYPE-M5 "Abraham", developed for military use by Schaft Enterprises America (SEUSA), and the curvilinear design of SEE's TYPE-7 "Brocken", which was also developed for military use.

Divisions[]

Schaft Enterprises Europe[]

Schaft Enterprises Europe is, as its name implies, the European branch of Schaft. The company is most well known for developing the Military labor type 7B "Brocken".

Schaft Enterprises Japan[]

Schaft Enterprises Japan (SEJ) is the Japanese branch of Schaft, and is most prominently featured as the apparent antagonistic organization of the Patlabor Anime. SEJ's most well-defined section is Planning Section 7, where the show's primary antagonistic characters are employed. Schaft Enterprises Japan (SEJ) is still an emerging force in Japan's heavy industry, but it has a large market share in areas such as video games and amusement machines. SEJ's game department is famous for its successful Labor control game, but in fact, the simulators used at Labor schools across the country are shifting from products to SEJ products.

Schaft Enterprises USA[]

SEUSA is affiliated with the Nippon Shiryo Group (not Hishii Industry alone). SEUSA, which has a deep connection with the US military, aimed to enter the Japanese defense industry through Shiryo. However, this business alliance was carried out over the head of SE, which is also part of the competition between Shaft Groups. 63% of SE's consolidated revenues in 2002 came from segments such as consumer computers, games and AV equipment. However, in the field of electronic flight instruments (avionics) in the aviation industry and in the field of GPS (Global Positioning System) in the shipping industry, SE is rapidly increasing its product share. It is believed that behind the development of Griffon by a part of SE, there was a sense of competition between the shaft groups of SE and SEUSA. It is said that the Griffon Development Group had a direct relationship with the Far East Manager over the heads of SE's upper echelons, but many details are still unknown.

Planning Section 7[]

Planning Section 7 includes, among a host of unnamed minor characters, Richard Wong, Kurosaki, and Bud Renard. This division is responsible for coordinating the development of advanced labors, mainly the Type-R13EX Phantom and the Type J-9 Griffon. Planning Section 7 was also responsible for analyzing the data collected by the SRX-70 labor. In addition to utilizing Schaft's own Military labor type 7B Brocken, this section worked closely with Holly Security Services to ensure security during clandestine labor tests.

Schaft Security System[]

Schaft Security System (SSS) is a private military organization wholly owned by Schaft Enterprises. In addition to employing highly skilled mercenaries, SSS possesses a broad inventory of weapons and vehicles, including labors such as the M-5 Abraham. SSS is utilized by its parent company to secure important facilities and to eliminate armed threats to Schaft. The most well-known operation involving SSS was the attempt to recapture the Type J-9 Griffon labor at the entrance to the Tokyo Harbor.

Other Divisions[]

Various unmentioned divisions of Schaft Enterprises can be assumed to exist. Schaft Enterprises America is mentioned by name, but little is known of its operations or products. Based on the existence of a European, Japanese, and American branch, it can be presumed that other regional divisions exist which are not relevant to the plot of the television anime.
