The TFV-97EX Crabman High-Leg Type is a construction labor manufactured by Shinohara Heavy Industries (SHI). It is based on the TFV-97 Crabman, and mounts modified legs, thus the name. The High-Leg Type would see further refinement into the final model in the line, the TVF-5 Centaur.
Design and Development[]
The TFV-97EX “Crabman High Leg” is a variation of the regular TFV-9 Crabman, which has improved durability and stability with a metal exterior and a new auto balancer. Like it's predecessor, its strength and stability unique to its four legs enable it to handle rough terrain. It's also equipped with roller wheels for driving along flat surfaces. Also capable of operating on three legs if one of its legs was destroyed as well. Although it is a high-end model of the Crabman for export, it is a high-performance machine that is incomparable to the standard model. The new auto-balance mechanism allows for extremely stable standing and running despite the longer legs. Not only that, but it's even more agile than the original Crabman. The exterior uses a lot of metal materials to strengthen its water resistance, and if equipped with an optional snorkel, it can be used for full-fledged underwater walking. Although it is a multi-functional labor capable of underwater operations, there are cases in which the military and security police have officially adopted it in politically unstable areas, and it has been criticized for violating the three principles of the Japanese government on arms exports.
