The TVF-5 Centaur is the final evolution of the Crabman series of labors manufactured by Shinohara Heavy Industries (SHI). Based on the TFV-97EX Crabman High-Leg Type, the Centaur furthers the versatility of the base model with the introduction of a newly-designed torso section. The Centaur appeared as an enemy in the game Patlabor: Operation Tokyo Bay.

Design & Development[]

Continuing the development of the original TFV-97 Crabman, the Centaur is a direct development of the High-Leg Type Crabman, and shares the entire lower body and leg section with the earlier model. Built to operate in mountainous and forested regions, the Centaur's upper body is entirely different from earlier Crabmans, incorporating two arms and a head unit. Additional equipment, including new sensors and communications systems, are also present.

These upgrades further enhance the Centaur's capabilities. By giving the unit arms with manipulators, the machine became able to carry supplies and tools without sacrificing its rough-terrain movement capabilities. Additionally, the ability to rotate its head independently of its body allows the pilot to more easily survey their surroundings without having to move the entire labor.

As a construction machine, the Centaur lacks built-in weapons systems, and it is not designed to handle labor weapons. However, it is known to be incredibly physically strong, and is capable of throwing boulders at significant range and velocity to cause serious damage to other labors.
